The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, March 7, 2018
Wednesday brought sunny weather with a high temperature of 20-25F at the summit.
Now on Thursday, a few early-morning clouds have mostly moved to the east already, and the temperature should rise from 15F at the base and 20F on the mountain to the upper 20s to mid-30s during the afternoon.
Friday will be similar to Thursday with warmer temperatures, and we could see a few more clouds drifting into the sky ahead of the next storm.
On Friday night through Saturday morning, a storm will track just to the northeast of Colorado, and this should be close enough to bring light-to-moderate snow to Steamboat with a favorable wind direction from the west and northwest. I expect total accumulations of about 1-3 inches and you’ll have the best chance of finding soft snow during the first half of Saturday.
Saturday later afternoon and night will be dry, then a weak and disorganized storm will drift near or over Colorado from Sunday through Tuesday. Initially, this storm will likely be too far away to bring much snow to Steamboat on Sunday, but we will have a chance for light accumulations (a couple of inches?) from later Sunday through Tuesday.
After that storm moves away, we should see dry weather from later next Tuesday through Wednesday, then a colder and stormier pattern will set up over the western US and should bring a chance for snow to Steamboat starting on Thursday, March 15th with chances for snow continuing through about March 21st. I do not know if the deepest accumulations will make it to Colorado or if they’ll stay just north and west of our state, but I do know that temperatures will be a better range for us to get deeper accumulations (compared to the very cold temperatures we saw last Sunday/Monday), so we might be enjoying fun powder days later next week, weekend, and early the following week.
