Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Wednesday, June 14, 2017

Joe Nicholls

Looking like a couple reports of some showers across the upper elevations, but not much down lower. The low pressure has moved into North Dakota and up into Manitoba, and we're left with a couple of awesome weather days!! The jet stream or main flow will be across the Pacific Northwest and into the northern Rockies through the end of the week and into the weekend with the tail end of a system clipping us Saturday with a slight chance of a brief shower or thunderstorm. High pressure will strengthen in behind it bringing sunny weather and warmer temperatures.

Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 39. West wind 5 to 15 mph becoming east southeast after midnight.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 79. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the morning.

Thursday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 80. Light west southwest wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

June 14th is Flag Day, marking the adoption of the American flag by the Continental Congress in the First Flag Act on June 14, 1777. The Act declared that the new flag would have "13 stripes alternate red and white: that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

Flag Day was left out of the 1968 Uniform Holiday Act, which established the 11 official federal holidays and three-day weekend holidays that we celebrate today. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day with actual legislation signed by President Harry Truman in 1949 proclaiming June 14 as Flag Day. Nonetheless, despite repeated attempts by advocates, Flag Day was never officially established as a federal holiday. We need to change that, June needs an official holiday!
