Joe Nicholls: We'll see some snow showers today, but also some breaks with the winds gradually decreasing today and tonight. A deep low pressure over the eastern Pacific will be near the coast tomorrow with a warm southwesterly flow. The next system will move into the area on Sunday with the snow level high initially, then turning colder during the afternoon and evening. Another system will move across later Monday night and Tuesday! All in all, a cool unsettled pattern through the first…

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 227 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: Good morning! A big day in the Nicholls household! My son and his wife are having a baby boy! So, I wanted to get this out to you and not sure what I'll be able to do with updates or anything. We'll see the moisture spread into the area this afternoon with showers, and a possible thunderstorm, then much cooler this evening with snow likely tonight. A second piece of the…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Friday, March 21, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 221 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: A weak and somewhat disorganized cold front will move into the area later today and become stationary tonight and tomorrow. It does get a little more support, and the lift to the air mass will increase, then we go to more of a northwest flow tomorrow morning. So, it all adds up to a period of snow later tonight and tomorrow morning. We could see a couple of snow showers…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Thursday, March 20, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 220 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: A fairly nice day on the mountain with an inversion and some colder temperatures at the lower portion of the mountain. Looking at the temperature file, we've had trouble mixing out the inversion, but should be a fairly mild day on most of the mountain. A weak cold front will move into the area tomorrow and then becomes stationary over us later tomorrow night and Saturday,…

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 219 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

A weak front will settle southward into the area later Friday and Saturday bringing a chance of a couple of snow showers, but it doesn't look like a big deal. High pressure will move back into the area…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Tuesday, March 18, 2104

Joe Nicholls: By the way, I love the Snow Cam! A nice burst of snow overnight and early this morning, and we'll continue to see a moist air mass with snow through the day. The winds at 700 mb will come more from the north during the day, then possibly turning to the west northwest this evening. So, I may need to add a little snow in the evening, but amounts during the day should be light. A drier and milder air mass over the next couple of days. Another front is due at the end of the week,…

Joe Nicholls St Patrick's Day and Safety Wise Forecast

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 217 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: A fairly quiet start to the day, but a fairly strong, energetic cold front will move across the area this afternoon. The surface pressure gradient and winds aloft will be quite strong. The 700 mb winds are forecasted to be near 45 mph at 6 PM, so this is a fairly high impact system. Most of the moisture, dynamics and lift are behind the front with more of a northwest flow…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Sunday, March 9, 2014

Joe Nicholls: We should have another nice day on the mountain, but we'll see more high clouds and a little warmer temperatures. The next system is moving into the Pacific Northwest, and will move southeastward into the area tomorrow night and into Tuesday. We'll see a period of snow, but the flow will turn to the north and northeast during the late morning and afternoon on Tuesday, so that should bring a decrease in the snowfall. The surface pressure gradient will peak around 4 or 5 mb, and…

Joe Nicholls: High pressure will move across the area today and early tomorrow, then the next system will move into the area tomorrow night and Friday. Initially, the snow levels will be fairly high, but drop after midnight and continue to snow Friday. The colder air mass will be accompanied by a northwest flow, so I'll bump the amounts a little. Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Sunday March 2, 2014

Joe Nicholls: A couple of weak systems today and tomorrow will keep a chance of snow showers in the forecast, but amounts are expected to be light. The good news is that the winds aren't expected to be an issue today and tomorrow!! The next system arrives on Tuesday, and we could see the snow level just above the base early, then lowering Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. A similar system, but a tad cooler at the end of that system.

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Saturday March 1, 2014

Joe Nicholls: The air mass will warm a tad this morning and that makes the snow level hovering around the base elevation, but then cool off this afternoon through tomorrow. The winds across the upper part of the resort will be increasing with the 700 mb winds forecasted to be near 40 knots around noon, 30 knots at 5 PM and less than 20 knots at 11 PM. The surface pressure gradient will also peak around noon, then gradually decrease through the evening. The bottom line, wind issues…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Friday, February 28, 2014

Joe Nicholls: As the system moved into Utah, we saw a little rain, but then snow levels lowered and we saw 2 to 3 inches around the 7000 foot level and we'll end up with 6 or 7 up top. So, I'm going to follow that pretty close for us overnight. An extremely difficult forecast with clouds increasing through the day with rain and snow moving into the area this afternoon and evening. The snow level is likely to be near or just above the base level, and the air mass will be unstable enough for a…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Thursday, February 27, 2014

Joe Nicholls: An extremely difficult forecast with clouds increasing through the day with rain and snow moving into the area this afternoon and evening. The snow level is likely to be near or just above the base level, and the air mass will be unstable enough for a slight chance of a thunderstorm later this afternoon and evening. We should see enough cooling of the air mass for a couple of inches of snow overnight. A break between systems tomorrow, but clouds and showers later tomorrow night…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Joe Nicholls: I didn't expect much from the system yesterday, but I expected a little! The next system is moving into California this morning and will move into our area later tomorrow and tomorrow night. Could see a little rain and snow mixed at the base late afternoon and evening, but change to snow overnight. An unsettled weekend with periods of snow, but the wind direction isn't the most favorable.

TODAY...PARTLY SUNNY. A 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW IN THE MORNING. HIGHS…

Joe Nicholls and Safety Wise Forecast for Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Joe Nicholls: An active period with a number of systems moving across the area. The first will be a combination of a cold front dropping southward through the Rockies and a weak upper level system from the Pacific Northwest. The cold front is mainly a shallow, east of the mountains , so I think amounts will be on the light side. A couple of rain and snow showers tomorrow afternoon, but again a light/ weak situation. A couple of stronger, more moist Pacific systems will move across the area…
