Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Joe Nicholls

Shaping up to be another fairly active weather day with the lifted index of -3 by late morning or early afternoon, and a weak upper level system over Utah that is expected to move across us today. A little more stable tomorrow with the passage of this system, but I don't think we totally get rid of the chance of an afternoon or evening thunderstorm through the weekend. I do see the air mass warming up again. Welcome to summer!

Joe is calling for a moderate chance…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Monday, July 10, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The satellite pictures show a fair amount of cloudiness circulating around the high pressure, and the air mass over us through Wednesday is quite unstable. So, expect more showers and thunderstorms today through Wednesday, and with more moisture in the air mass, should see some rain with these showers and thunderstorms. A little less activity Thursday thru Saturday, but can't take the chance out completely.

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Friday, July 7, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The weather balloon data this morning shows an increase in moisture, and it's a little more unstable. So, a little more active today and tomorrow with more coverage of showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall is expected to be light and spotty, with gusty winds and lightning the main threats with the thunderstorms. A little bit of a decrease on Sunday, but we see a higher risk of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Thursday, July 6, 2017

Joe Nicholls

Starting to see a little moisture spreading over the western periphery of the high pressure, so a slight chance of a thunderstorm today, and a little higher tomorrow and Saturday. The high pressure will weaken some early next week, and shift a little to the east, allowing for a little more moisture leading to an increase in showers and thunderstorms.

NOAA - Steamboat Springs

Today - Sunny, with a high near 87. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The high pressure is fairly strong over the Great Basin, and just enough moisture and instability for an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon or early evening. The models do tend to gradually increase the monsoon flow in the extended period, but at least through the weekend, it's fairly weak and any activity is looking isolated.

NOAA - Steamboat Springs

Today - Sunny, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Monday, July 3, 2017

Joe Nicholls

There were a number of showers and thunderstorms over western Colorado and eastern Utah yesterday, and the boundary is still left over the area this morning, as evident with the lingering clouds.I believe we'll see more activity this afternoon, and like yesterday, the bases will be fairly high so rainfall amounts spotty and light. A drier and more stable air mass will be over us tomorrow and Wednesday. By the end of the week, we'll see more of an increase in afternoon and…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Friday, June 30, 2017

Joe Nicholls

A drier and more stable air mass is over us this morning, and it's a little chilly with much of the area dipping into the upper 30s. We'll be warming through the period, especially for much of next week. There is a weak weather system that will generate a couple of high based thunderstorms on Sunday, so I'll include a slight chance, but wouldn't alter any plans.

NOAA - Steamboat Springs

Today - Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. South southeast wind…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Thursday, June 29, 2017

Joe Nicholls

One more upper level system over the northern Rockies will move southeastward bringing some clouds, and again a chance of a couple of showers or a thunderstorm this afternoon. A drier air mass with higher pressure developing over the area this weekend through early next week and it's looking like a really nice stretch of weather.

Joe is calling for a Low chance of thunderstorms from 4 pm to Midnight.

Low pressure is over Alberta and will push a system or two down across us with one this afternoon, and another tomorrow afternoon and evening. Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Joe Nicholls

A weak front is moving across northern Utah, and will make it to us this afternoon and evening. There are some showers and a thunderstorm over northern Utah, but the rain isn't reaching the ground (virga) and these are pretty scattered. I'll keep a chance this afternoon and evening, and again for a brief period tomorrow afternoon. A little cooler weather tomorrow through Friday, then warming Saturday through early next week with minimal to no thunderstorm activity. …
