WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT MDT TONIGHT

Joe Nicholls

A really impressive weather system and the cold front has slipped just south of the area. The flow of moisture will continue through the afternoon, and the snow levels are low, but should be climbing a little during the afternoon. The air mass dries out tonight and tomorrow, so should see plenty of sunshine tomorrow and into Wednesday. The surge of moisture later Wednesday and Thursday, so I'll…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Friday, September 29, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The radar at 7 AM is showing an area of rain from Craig to Grand Junction, and the circulation around the low pressure, centered over southwest Wyoming, will bring some of this activity into our area today. A system, moving into the Pacific Northwest this morning, will move into our area later tomorrow afternoon and night ushering in a cooler air mass and an increase in the chance of showers. The cool, unsettled weather is expected into Monday!

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Wednesday, September 27, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The satellite images show that low pressure over Arizona is spreading moisture northward across western Colorado and we'll see more clouds and a chance of a shower or thunderstorm later today, tonight and especially tomorrow. Another cold front reaches us later Saturday and Saturday evening, a little faster than on the models yesterday, so I pushed up the timing and now have Sunday a little quieter weather day.

We have a low chance of thunderstorms from 4 to 8 pm…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Tuesday, September 26, 2017

Joe Nicholls

Looking like this may be the best day of the week with some sunshine and mild temperatures. The moisture isn't too far away later this afternoon and tonight, but the low pressure developing over Arizona will push that moisture into the area tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. So, definitely and increase in mainly showers along with an isolated thunderstorm. There should be a decrease in activity on Friday and minimal, if any, activity on Saturday. By Sunday, a cold front is…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Monday, September 26, 2017

Joe Nicholls

A little drier air mass over the area today and tomorrow, but a weak area of low pressure aloft will be developing over Arizona, and this will bring moisture northward into the area as early as later Wednesday, but for sure Thursday and Friday. So, I've increased the chance of precipitation on those two days.

NOAA - Steamboat Springs

Today - Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight - Mostly…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Friday, September 22, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The center of low pressure is over Idaho with the frontal boundary at the Utah border, but will be shifting ever so slowly eastward. We'll see the southerly winds increase again today and clouds will be on the increase with a chance of showers or a thunderstorm this afternoon. A little more upper level support moves into the area later tonight and tomorrow bringing more showers. The lifted index does drop to -2 tomorrow afternoon, so again, I can't rule out a chance of a…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Thursday, September 21, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The satellite images show the increase in amplitude of the system over the West, so breezy southerly winds and warm today. In fact, we'll start out tomorrow fairly mild with the southerly flow continuing. A slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow, but more of an increase on Saturday and Sunday, as the low pressure moves slowly across the area. The overnight models have the most instability between noon and 3 PM, then slowly stabilizing during the latter part of…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The next part of the low pressure has arrived into the Pacific Northwest, and we'll see the area of low pressure deepen over the Great Basin today and tomorrow, then progress eastward across us Friday and the weekend. The mild southwest flow today and tomorrow will give way to the front on Friday with an increase in showers, and starting the cooling trend for the weekend.

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The moisture is spreading back into the area, and should see an increase in showers and a couple of thunderstorms this afternoon. A cold front arrives later tomorrow and tomorrow night, and I've hit it fairly hard. Probably our best chance of some decent rainfall in quite some time! The showers will be decreasing on Friday, but still a couple linger on Saturday, but really stable on Saturday and drier Sunday and Monday. Another cold front by the middle of next week and…
