The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, April 15, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Surprise!

If you get out on the hill early on Sunday morning, you’ll find a dusting of new snow that fell on Saturday night.

Earlier forecasts showed the chance for a few snow showers on Saturday night, and the storm actually came in a bit stronger than expected.

Sunday morning’s snow showers and clouds should move away by mid-morning, leaving partly sunny skies for the rest of Sunday with temperatures rising into the mid-to-upper 30s. Have fun…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, April 14, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Friday was a chilly day with 2-3 inches falling during the morning, which created fun powder conditions (total snowfall of about 10 inches when factoring in Thursday night) on the upper half of the mountain!

Then on Friday night, two inches of snow fell at the summit snow stake, and now on Saturday morning, light snow is just tapering off. If you’re heading out on Saturday, you’ll find a morning temperature of 10-20F with soft-ish snow from the previous 36 hours of…

Steamboat Mountain Happenings for Friday, April 13, 2018

Joel Gratz

On Thursday evening, a cold front arrived and snow began to fall, and now on Friday morning, the official mid-mountain report and the summit snow stake camera both show 7 inches of new snow.

We are seeing a lull in the storm now early on Friday morning with a chilly temperature of 8F at the summit to 23F at the base. Snow showers should return by mid-to-late morning and continue through Friday night. Additional snowfall could range from 4-8 inches from Friday…

Steamboat Mountain Happenings for Thursday, April 12, 2018

Joel Gratz

Thursday morning is remarkably warm with temperatures that never hit freezing on Wednesday night. Readings will be in the 40s for most of the day along with very strong winds, gusting to 30-50 mph during the middle of the day and the afternoon.

On Thursday afternoon, we could see a few showers, and then on Thursday night, a cold front will move through, bringing snow and dropping temperatures to the 20s and eventually to the teens. My snow forecast for Thursday night…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Joel Gratz

Wednesday morning is warm, with temperatures near freezing at the summit and already in the 40s on the rest of the mountain. We’ll see clouds this morning, then from late morning through afternoon, skies should be mostly sunny with temperatures warming into the upper 40s and low 50s.

Thursday will start out dry and warm, then the next storm will push a few showers into the area by the afternoon.

On Thursday night, a cold front will move through, and…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, April 10, 2018

Joel Gratz

We will trade powder days for dry days this week as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be dry and warm with highs in the 40s near and above mid-mountain. High-and-mid-level clouds could filter the sunshine at times, which could slow the softening process of the snow, but with warm temperatures, the snow will eventually soften and you'll enjoy classic spring skiing. The only weather issues will be a few showers on Wednesday, and gusty winds on Thursday.

Then our…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, April 9, 2018

Joel Gratz

Sunday was a fun powder day at the upper elevations of Steamboat with snow showers and breaks of sunshine throughout the day.

Then on Sunday night, the final wave of colder snow moved through with 7 inches falling at the summit and about 5 inches on the official mid-mountain snow stake. We could see a few more hours of accumulating snowfall until about 9:00 am on Monday morning, so with a little luck, you'll find a bit more snow than the report indicates. Have fun on…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, April 8, 2018

Joel Gratz-

As of Sunday at 4:00am, the summit snow stake shows that about 8 inches of snow accumulated on Saturday night, and on the upper half of the mountain, we might see an additional 1-3 inches before the snow stops early this morning. While temperatures are finally starting to cool, the freezing level was between the summit and mid-mountain, so like Saturday, expect thick, dense powder on the upper part of the mountain with little to no new snow on the lower half of the mountain.…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, April 7, 2018

Joel Gratz-

We saw snow on Friday, and this snow continued on Friday night with deeper accumulations than I expected. This is what happens when we have a lot of moisture in the air – it can lead to big snow totals! The summit snow stake showed 6 inches on Friday with 6 inches on Friday night, totaling 12 inches.

The temperature is warm, around 25-30F from mid-mountain to the summit, and just above freezing at the base. So, expect dense, surfy snow from mid-mountain and above, and…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Thursday, April 5, 2018

Joel Gratz

On Thursday night, 2 inches of snow accumulated at the mid-mountain snow stake and I see 1.5 inches on the summit snow stake.

Snow Friday through Saturday morning

Expect 3-7 inches during this time, with steadier snow from Friday mid-morning through the afternoon, and showers continuing through Saturday morning. The rain/snow line should be around 8,000-9,000 feet, which would translate to dense, thick snow for most of the upper half of the mountain with rain…

Aspen Skiing Co. ‘clawed back’ from poor start to season; state trade group isn’t talking

Scott Condon-Aspen Times

A trade association for the Colorado ski industry is staying tight-lipped on whether business has picked up at its 22 member resorts after a rocky start to the season.

Business was down 13 percent through December at Colorado Ski Country USA's resorts, according to a report that was released in mid-January. Another report was scheduled for release in…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Thursday, April 5, 2018

Joel Gratz

Wednesday was mostly cloudy with a high temperature at the summit around 30F.

Thursday should be similar to Wednesday, perhaps with a bit more sunshine in the morning, more clouds in the afternoon, and a daytime high ranging from the mid-30s at the summit to the mid-40s at mid-mountain.

Storm from Thursday night through Saturday morning

Expect 5-10 inches of snow during this time, and I updated the forecast to show that snow might continue from Friday…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, April 4, 2018

Joel Gratz

Tuesday was a beautiful day with temperatures in the upper teens and 20s with sunny skies throughout the day. Gorgeous!

Now on Wednesday morning, high-and-mid level clouds are moving over Colorado, so expect a partly-to-mostly cloudy day with temperatures rising from a morning low of 20-25 degrees to a daytime high in the low-to-mid 30s.

Thursday will be similar to Wednesday with partly-to-mostly cloudy skies and a daytime high in the mid-to-upper…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, April 3, 2018

Joel Gratz

Monday was warm with a high temperature around 35-40F and ridgetop wind gusts over 35mph. Then a cold front hit on Monday night, and now on Tuesday morning, the temperature is in the 0-10F range.

In addition to chilly air, the cold front also brought snow, with 2 inches on the mid-mountain snow stake and 1 inch on the summit snow stake camera. You should be able to find soft snow on the groomers on Tuesday morning - enjoy!

The weather on Tuesday will be mostly…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, April 2, 2018

Joel Gratz

The weather on Monday will be warm, with high temperatures in the upper 30s to mid-40s, and it will also be very windy, with gusts of 30-50mph on the ridges.

Then on Monday night, another fast-moving storm will bring a few hours of snow between 600pm and 300am with 2-4 inches likely accumulating by the first chair on Tuesday morning. To get the most enjoyment from this new snow on Tuesday morning, plan to be on the first chair, before the sunshine turns the new…
