Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for, Monday, August 7, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The moisture is pooling over the region, so a lot of clouds over the next couple of days with an increase in showers and thunderstorms. I expect some areas of heavier rainfall, especially near the thunderstorms. A gradual decrease in the activity at the end of the week and next weekend, but still a chance each afternoon or early evening.

Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from Noon to 4 pm, a moderate chance from 4 pm to 8 pm, and a low chance from…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for, Thursday, August 3, 2017

Joe Nicholls

A fair amount of cloudiness over the area this morning, and I expect we'll see an increase in activity fairly early today with the lifted index to -3 prior to noon. The air mass isn't super saturated, so rainfall amounts, if any, will be light. We should see minimal activity tomorrow and Saturday, but I'm going to move the timing up on the convective activity to Sunday and that increase will last into the coming week. The high pressure is shifting away from the area with…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for, Wednesday, August 2, 2017

Joe Nicholls

We’ll see a weak front settle into the area later today through midday on Thursday, and should be just strong enough to generate a couple of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. A little drier air mass Friday and Saturday, so anything that develops will be isolated. I do see more of an increase in moisture and a chance of thunderstorms increasing early next week.

Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from 4 pm to Midnight.

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Colorado Day, Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The high pressure is moving a little further northwest of the area with a fairly weak front moving across us tomorrow and Thursday bringing a slight increase in a chance of a thunderstorm. I think today will be similar to yesterday, when we developed a couple of cells, but they decreased fairly rapidly. The moisture will increase later Sunday into early next week, bringing another increase in the chance of thunderstorms.

Joe is calling for a low chance of…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Monday, July 31, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The high pressure is strengthening over the West with our flow more from the north and northeast, so we're drying out the air mass. We could see an isolated thunderstorm, but these would have high bases with mainly gusty winds and lightning, and these would be very brief. A slight increase in the thunderstorm coverage on Wednesday and Thursday, b ut certainly not a big surge of moisture.

NOAA - Steamboat Springs

Today - Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Friday, July 28, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The satellite images show a system over east central Nevada and into northern Utah that the models are handling poorly. This system should bring a little lift to the air mass later this afternoon and evening, so I'll keep the showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. As I look at the pattern through the weekend, and into early next week, I see enough moisture and instability for a chance of a shower or thunderstorm each afternoon and evening with a little more acitivty…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Thursday, July 27, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The air mass is a little more stable today, so I keep the activity at a minimum, and more isolated, but there's a chance of a thunderstorm just about every afternoon and early evening. The chance is higher next Monday and Tuesday, as we're a little more unstable and have just a little extra lift.

Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from 4 pm to Midnight.

NOAA - Steamboat Springs

Today - A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Joe Nicholls

We've seen some decent rainfall amounts in the area over the last 24 hours, and the air mass remains moist and unstable to support more showers and thunderstorms today. Clouds and mainly some light showers this morning and early afternoon, then the potentially heavier showers and thunderstorms mid to late afternoon. The trend through Saturday will be for decreasing activity, but the models do keep enough moisture and instability for a couple of afternoon and evening…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Joe Nicholls

I'm seeing a couple of fairly active weather days with the moist, unstable air mass and with a fairly weak air flow, we should see some areas of decent rainfall, especially near any thunderstorms. The clouds will also keep the temperatures held down. We should dry out and stablize Friday and Saturday, then back into the isolated to widely scattered thunderstorm cov erage on Sunday.

Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from 9 am to 4 pm, a moderate…
