Sunday was warm and windy during the morning, then the cold front arrived at 1100 am and temperatures quickly dropped by 10-15 degrees. The snow started between noon and 100 pm and 4 inches accumulated by the end of the day, which was enough to create soft turns on some of the lower-angle or north-facing terrain. An additional inch fell after lifts closed, which brings the 24-hour tally to 5 inches by Monday morning. Five inches was at the lower end of my 4-8 forecast…Continue

It’s Sunday morning and it is hard to imagine that a storm is coming because the sky is clear and the temperature is warm, in the mid-20s at the summit and in the low-30s at mid-mountain and the base.
However, the storm is coming, although it might arrive a few hours later than I thought yesterday. Expect the cold front to arrive and snow showers to start between about 1200 pm and 200 pm with snow continuing through Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening, and Sunday…Continue

Saturday will be similar to Friday with sunny skies and afternoon highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.
On Sunday morning, you’ll wake up to dry weather and perhaps some sunshine and breezy conditions. Then expect a cold front and snow to start between about 1100 am and noon with snow continuing through Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening, and Sunday…Continue

Thursday was a sunny day with a high temperature of about 25F on the hill. Then we saw a few clouds and very light snow showers early on Thursday night, but those clouds have passed and Friday morning is once again dawning with a clear sky.
The weather on Friday and Saturday will be mostly sunny with the warmest temperatures of the week, topping out between about 35-40F on the hill.
Then a strong and slow-moving storm over the west coast will finally arrive in…Continue

On Wednesday we saw a few times when clouds shrouded the upper mountain, though no snowfall resulted from these clouds.
Now on Thursday, we’ll start the day with clear skies and temperatures ranging from 9F at the base to 20F at mid-mountain to 12F at the summit. With plenty of sunshine during the day, these temperatures should begin to equalize and on-mountain highs should top out in the upper 20s with base temperatures…Continue

We’ll see a slight change to our weather pattern on Wednesday as a weak storm tracks south of Colorado throughout the day. This storm’s impact on the weather at Steamboat will be minimal. Expect more clouds on Wednesday, and some of these clouds could produce snow showers which might drop a dusting to an inch or two during the day, if a stronger cell hits the mountain. Temperatures will be cooler than Tuesday, only topping out in the low-to-mid 20s.

Monday was full of sunshine and much warmer than the previous few days with a high temperature of about 20F on the hill and about 30F at the base.
Tuesday will be similar to or just a bit warmer than Monday with a high temperature that reaches the mid-20s on the hills and upper-30s at the base, along with plenty of sunshine.
Our next storm will track well to the south of Colorado, and thus we’ll only see some clouds and light snow showers from late Tuesday…Continue

Sunday started off with light snow, then the clouds cleared by midday and the sun and blue skies came out during the afternoon hours. Despite a bit more sunshine, though, temperatures only reached 5F at the summit – I hope you stayed warm!
Monday will bring lots of sunshine. The morning temperature ranges from 15F at the base to 5F at the summit, and the temperature across the mountain should warm into the mid-20s to low-30s by afternoon. Tuesday will also be…Continue

The official Sunday morning snow report shows 5 inches of accumulation at mid-mountain, though the summit snow stake camera shows that about 2 inches of snow fell on Saturday night, so accumulations might be quite variable across the mountain. Nonetheless, this additional snow and very cold temperatures will keep the snow surface soft.
Speaking of temperatures, they stayed in the single digits on Saturday, didn’t move very much on Saturday night, and won’t rise to more…Continue

On Friday night, 7 inches accumulated at the summit snow stake camera, and the official report from mid-mountain is also 7 inches. This was a few inches above the high side of the forecast, and we'll take it!
Now on Saturday morning, you will find soft snow and a very cold temperature between about -5 at the summit and +10F at the base, and the temperature will not increase very much even as the snow showers end and you see some sunshine today. Dress warmly, and expect…Continue

We are in the middle of a fun storm cycle with chances for snow during four days in a row from Thursday through Sunday.
On Thursday, Steamboat received 1 inch of snow during the morning, and then additional snow fell on Thursday night with 2 more inches being reported at mid-mountain and 3 more inches on the Summit snow stake camera.
Now on Friday morning, we are in between storms and there is plenty of sunshine. The snow surface should be soft and powdery…Continue

We will see three-storms through Sunday.
The first storm arrived late on Wednesday night with 1/2 inch being reported on the mid-mountain snow stake as of 500 am on Thursday. We should see the snow showers continue on Thursday with 1-3 inches of accumulation and this should keep the groomers and north-facing slopes soft and fun.
The snow showers will likely wind down on Thursday night and Friday, though they may not stop completely and some weather forecast…Continue
