The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Wednesday, December 6, 2017

Joel Gratz- Meteorologist at OpenSnow.com

Happy Wednesday and dress warmly this morning as the temperature is in the single digits from the base up to the summit. Isn't it great that it feels like winter again with cold temps and natural snow on the ground?

The weather for Wednesday will be partly sunny and likely dry, though a few clouds and flurries could sneak in from a system to our east. Then on Thursday, another slightly stronger system will slide into northern Colorado…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Tuesday, December 5, 2017

Joel Gratz

Monday was a great day at Steamboat with about 4-5 inches waiting for you in the morning and another 4-5 inches that fell during the morning and midday.

The snow that fell on Monday came in the form of big fluffy flakes, the exact type that creates the Champagne Powder that Steamboat is famous for. The weather conditions that most often produce these flakes at Steamboat is a summit temperature of 5-10F and a wind direction from the west, and those were the exact…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, December 4, 2017

Joel Gratz

On Monday morning, the snow report from mid-mountain indicates that 4-5 inches of snow fell on Sunday night, and this is confirmed by the snow stake webcam at the summit. And now as the sun rises around 7 am, light-to-moderate snow continues to fall, so you will enjoy fresh and soft turns in the morning. Please dress warmly as temperatures at mid-mountain are a chilly 10 degrees. And expect another 1-3 inches throughout the day on Monday as snow showers…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Sunday, December 3, 2017

Joel Gratz:

Sunday will start out dry and partly sunny, then we'll see a few snow showers on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday night, expect a better chance for snow after about 7 pm, with a few hours of intense snow as a cold front pushes through right around Sunday at midnight.

Then snow showers should continue on-and-off through the day on Monday. These snow showers on Monday could add a few more inches to the storm total because the wind will blow from the west and this is a…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Saturday, December 2, 2017

Joel Gratz:

Saturday will be a partly-to-mostly sunny day with afternoon high temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Sunday will be about the same as Saturday, then we'll see a few snow showers on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday night, expect a few hours of intense snow as a cold front pushes through, and then snow showers should last on-and-off through the day on Monday. The wind should blow from the west on Monday, and along with chilly temperatures, this is a good pattern…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, December 1, 2017

Joel Gratz

Good Friday morning!

Friday's weather should be mostly dry, though I can't rule out a few snow showers as a weak storm moves just to the north of Colorado.

On Saturday, expect dry, sunny, and slightly warmer weather (compared to Friday) with highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.

On Sunday, we will see a few midday and afternoon snow showers, and then a cold front will bring a period of intense snow on Sunday night through Monday morning. If you want to ski…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, November 30, 2017

Joel Gratz

Good news sports fans – temperatures are colder than they were last week, so nighttime snowmaking is once again a thing. Making snow for 6-12 hours each night can only do so much, so I am not expecting a lot more terrain to open, but colder temperatures are better than warmer temperatures, so we'll take it.

Steamboat's next chance for natural snowfall will occur on Sunday and Monday. Expect light snow to begin on Sunday, then a cold front will blast through on Sunday…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Wednesday, November 29, 2017

Joel Gratz

Happy hump day and thanks for checking in. I wish I had better snow-related news, but there is still good to talk about.

The good – even though Monday night's storm didn't produce measurable snow, it did drop temperatures by 10-15 degrees and these cooler readings should persist through the week. Cooler temperatures should allow for a bit more snowmaking. Another piece of good news is that we will likely see snow on Sunday and Monday with at least a few inches of…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Tuesday, November 28, 2017

Joel Gratz

I am writing this post late on Monday night because the storm we are expecting tonight is weakening and I am not sure that we'll get any more than a dusting to an inch of snow if that. When you wake up on Tuesday morning, check the webcams and official snow report to see what fell, and keep your expectations low.

The good news is that even though the forecast for the rest of the week is for dry weather, temperatures will be much cooler than the last few days…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, November 27, 2017

Joel Gratz

I'd love to tell you that we'll see a lot of natural snow this week, but that's just not in the cards. We might sneak out an inch or two on Monday night, and could see flurries to a coating of snow on Wednesday night. Aside from these two storms, however, the rest of the week will be dry. The upside of these systems is that temperatures will drop a few degrees, which should allow for more nighttime snowmaking.

Looking further ahead, I have medium confidence that a…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Sunday, November 26, 2017

The Steamboat Daily Snow-Joel Gratz

Saturday was a sunny and warm day, and Sunday and Monday will be similar to Saturday with dry conditions, sunshine, and morning temperatures that are a bit colder at the base than higher up on the mountain. Unfortunately, nighttime low temperatures are not cooling quite enough for much if any snowmaking, but some colder weather is on the way.

A fast-moving storm will bring light snow on Monday night, with perhaps a coating to 2 inches falling…
