On Saturday night, we saw a few flakes, but the slightly more consistent snow stayed about 30-50 miles to our northeast, so the official snow report shows zero snowfall on Sunday morning. Sometimes we get lucky (like the snow on Christmas Day), and sometimes the storms track a little too far away.
On Sunday, in the wake of the weak system on Saturday night, expect temperatures to be 10 degrees cooler compared to Saturday with highs in the 20s. Then we’ll see highs in…Continue

The weather on Saturday will be partly-to-mostly sunny with comfortable temperatures heading into the upper 30s by early afternoon. Lather on the sunscreen and enjoy the 150 trails which are currently open at Steamboat (this is the most number of trails open in Colorado).
Then a weak storm to the north of Colorado should bring a few flakes between Saturday sunset and Sunday sunrise. My forecast is for 1-2 inches, so not a big storm, but hopefully a nice little…Continue

The weather on Friday and Saturday will be partly-to-mostly sunny with comfortable temperatures heading into the mid-to-upper 30s by early afternoon. Lather on the sunscreen and enjoy the 150 trails which are currently open at Steamboat. Our snowpack is only 69% of average for this date, so be thankful for the hard work of the snowmaking team and the luck of receiving 32 inches of snow in the past week, which all helped to open a good chunk of the mountain.

The forecast for Thursday and Friday will be similar to Wednesday with high temperatures in the 30s, partly to mostly sunny skies, and perhaps just a flurry or a few clouds at times as weak storms pass by to the north of Colorado.
Our next chance for snow will arrive on Saturday night when we could see a quick 1-3 inches during the evening. This new snow would soften the slopes for Sunday morning.
After that, I think the first few days of January will be dry,…Continue

I hope you had a Merry Christmas skiing powder at Steamboat!
Snow fell through the morning on Monday, with a storm total of about 11 inches at mid-mountain. The total snowfall from three-and-a-half-days between Thursday night and Monday midday was 31 inches … very impressive! This snow allowed Steamboat to open more terrain, and now about 60% of the trails are open (95 of 165).
The forecast for the rest of the week looks dry and at least partly sunny, with…Continue

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Christmas Day 2017
The official snow report shows that 7 inches fell between Sunday at midnight and Monday at 5am at mid-mountain.
What the snow report will not tell you, but you can see from the time-lapse webcams, is that intense snowfall has continued between Monday 5am to 8am at least another few inches has
fallen. That means that you’ll find at least 8-10 inches of fresh pow when you get to first chair, and…

Oh baby! The storm delivered, with 7-8 inches of snow falling on Friday night, and another 11 inches falling during the day and very early evening on Saturday. That brings the storm total to about 18 inches, and I hope you enjoyed some of this powder!
Looking ahead, we will see dry weather on Sunday, then the next storm will bring snow from Sunday night through Monday afternoon. Like the last storm, this system will blow in with a wind from the west, with temperatures…Continue

The storm is here! The mid-mountain snow stake recorded 7 inches between about Friday at 11 pm and Saturday at 5 pm. Snow should continue through the day on Saturday, with perhaps the most intense snow falling late on Saturday afternoon and early Saturday evening as a cold front passes through. Expect an additional 9-18 inches on Saturday and Saturday evening, and the best time to ski powder could be later on Saturday afternoon and also the first chair on Sunday…

Thursday's storm did not take an ideal track to bring snow to Steamboat because the wind direction was from the north and east. The best wind direction for Steamboat is from the west and west-northwest. Still, we managed to eek out 2 inches of snow, and I'll take the flakes!
The really, really, really good news is that the next few storms should bring a wind direction from the west, and thus Steamboat has the chance to see a lot of snow through Christmas Day…Continue

On Thursday morning, light snow is falling on Steamboat with an on-mountain temperature in the low 20s. I expect just light snow and light accumulations for most of the day on Thursday because the wind from the east is not favorable for Steamboat. Later on Thursday afternoon and evening, the wind direction should switch to blow from the west. This westerly direction is favorable for snow at Steamboat and might bring a few inches after lifts close. If this happens, target…Continue

Wednesday will be partly to mostly cloudy and dry with highs in the 30s. Then we'll see two storms before Christmas day.
The first storm will bring snow from late Wednesday night through Thursday night. This storm is moderately strong, though the wind direction will not blow from the west for most of the storm, and that means that our snow totals will likely stay in the 2-4 inch range (a wind from the west is most favorable for snowfall at…Continue
