SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 7 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The east winds at 700 mb isn't a problem with most reports of less than 10 mph, but the surface gradient is running 8 to 10 mb, and this gradient will continue through the morning, then begin to decrease through the afternoon and for sure tonight and tomorrow. We should remain dry through the coming weekend with a slow warmup.

TODAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Monday, December 29, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 6 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The main band of moisture is being pushed south of us, as the east- northeast winds from the surface gradient and aloft take hold. The 700 mb winds stay around 10 mph or even a tad less today and tomorrow. It's the surface pressure difference that will run between 5 and 8 mb, so the windiest spots could see some gusts to 45-50 mph later this afternoon and again tomorrow…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Sunday, December 28, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 5 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The low pressure continues to move into the interior of the West and we'll see snow over the area today and tonight. The cold air mass and getting colder will result in more of the best snow around! I still see more of an east wind tomorrow and into Tuesday. The east winds are still only 10 knots, but the surface gradient from Monday night through Tuesday will range from 5 to…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Saturday, December 27, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 4 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: Some clouds and a chance of flurries or snow showers this morning, then more breaks this afternoon and evening. The next system is moving southeastward along the British Columbia Coast and will move into the Great Basin and central Rockies tomorrow and Monday. A little more easterly component to the wind on Monday, especially in the afternoon and night will limit the snow. A…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Thursday, December 25, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 2 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The easterly flow at 700 mb is around 5 mph, and we're past the strongest of the easterly pressure gradient, and will shift more westerly this afternoon and evening. I keep some light snow in the forecast, and it was awesome to see the new snow in the last 24 hours. The next system drops southward into the West bringing some snow Sunday and into early Monday, then another…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Thursday, December 25, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 2 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls:  Merry Christmas! A band of snow moved across during the early morning hours, so that's awesome. The cold front is hung up over Utah, but we should see another period of snow before the winds shift more to an easterly direction this evening through tomorrow morning. The winds aloft on the latest model data are less than 10 knots and with the peak easterly gradient around 6…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Monday, December 24, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 1 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: A chilly start on the mountain, and the next system to impact our weather is along the Pacific Northwest Coast. We'll see snow showers or light snow develop late tonight and tomorrow morning, and should see some light snow through the afternoon. However, the overnight models bring more of a northeast wind at 700 mb and a northeast pressure gradient, and that will kill…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 23 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: Still some moisture and some snow showers in the area, but less wind and the air mass is fairly cold with the 700 mb temperatures near -15'C! The next system moves into the area on Christmas with snow developing in the morning, but increasing in the afternoon and evening. Another system possible on Sunday with another cold air mass through the first half of next week. In…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Monday, December 22, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 22 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: Definitely nice to see the new snow, but a little disappointed that it wasn't more. I believe part of the issue is the wind direction doesn't go fully to 310 or 320 degrees until this morning and into the afternoon. There's plenty of moisture upstream and the 700 mb temperatures will continue to get colder, meaning lower densities and more snow. Also, it adds up to some…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Sunday, December 21, 2014

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 21 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The moist northwest flow will continue today and tomorrow with the surface gradient increasing from the west, and the 700 mb flow west today to northwest tonight and tomorrow. I expect it to be a windy day, as the 700 mb winds increase to 50 knots by 5 PM and will be between 45 and 50 knots (but from the northwest) by 11 PM. The winds this morning seem to be managable, but…
