Friday was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and high temperatures reaching the mid-40s at the base and the low-30s at the summit.
Compared to Friday, the weather on Saturday will likely be a few degrees warmer and the sky will also likely have a few more clouds.
Between Saturday night at midnight and Sunday at noon, expect a few hours of snow showers with 1-2 inches of accumulation. The fast-moving nature of this system should limit snow totals, and the…Continue

Following the 7 inches of snow on Wednesday and Wednesday night, the riding on Thursday morning was soft and fun. This just goes to show that we don’t need massive snow totals to create great skiing, so don’t get too picky, especially late in the season.
During the day on Thursday, snow showers returned during the midday and afternoon hours, dropping about 1/2 inch of snow on the summit. These snow showers and the cold air helped to keep conditions soft.

Wednesday’s weather offered snow showers through the day, with brief breaks and also times of more intense snow.
Following Wednesday's snow, there was additional snow on Wednesday night, and the final verdict on Thursday morning is about 8 inches at the Summit snow stake and about 7 inches at the official mid-mountain snow stake. About 5-6 of these inches happened before lifts closed on Wednesday afternoon, so most of this snow will be tracked with some freshies on…Continue

Tuesday was a beautiful, sunny day with high temperatures around 40F at the base and 25-30F at the summit. Ah, springtime in the Rockies!
Most of Tuesday night was dry, then clouds and snow showers moved into the Steamboat area around 500 am on Wednesday morning, at least a few hours earlier than what I said would happen in yesterday’s forecast. As I write this at 630 am on Wednesday morning, the summit snow stake camera shows a dusting of snow accumulation. This…Continue

We saw snowflakes through the first 2/3rds of Monday as a narrow band of precipitation set up over northwestern Colorado. These flakes amounted to 1 inch at mid-mountain and 2 inches at the summit. Then the snow came to an end on Monday night as the storm moved to the south.
On Tuesday morning, skies are clear and we’ll see plenty of sunshine with temperatures rising from a morning low of about 15F to an afternoon high in…Continue

I have returned to the internet following my four-day, three-night hut trip in the mountains west of Leadville. Thanks to Sam Collentine for writing the Steamboat Daily Snow while I was gone.
The calendar shows that we are clearly into springtime, but four storms will likely bring snow to Steamboat during the next 10 days, so ski season is far from over!
The first storm will spread light snow over Steamboat through the day on Monday. If we are lucky,…Continue

Steamboat will receive mild temps and gusty winds out of the southwest on Sunday, followed by increased cloud coverage during the second half of the day. Look for mid-mountain highs in the 30s ahead of slightly cooler temps for the rest of this week.
Come Sunday evening, increasing clouds will turn over to light snow showers through Monday. Totals will range from a dusting to maybe an inch or two as a slow-moving system slides to our southwest and eventually well…Continue

Steamboat is reporting 11 inches on the summit for Saturday morning's report. This is slightly higher than expected but I believe the wind shifted just enough to the west to deliver us an extra few inches. The turns will be soft and surfy so get out there and enjoy!
Mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures will now be the story on Saturday and into Sunday. There's still just enough moisture to produce a few clouds and high-elevation showers but this shouldn't put a…Continue

We have a dusting on the snow stake cam as of 7:45 am as the storm has made its way into Steamboat. Temperatures are currently in the low 30s and we have a wet snow falling on the mountain, with a rain/snow mix at the base area.
A relatively weak cold front will swing through Steamboat later this morning and bring us a good shot of moderate to heavy snow. Our primary wind direction will shift to blow from the southwest to the west-southwest by midday. This isn't…Continue

Thursday will offer partly to mostly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, likely reaching into the 40s. We might see a few showers during the day, but I think most of the time will be dry.
The next storm will then bring precipitation from Thursday evening through Friday night. The first half of the storm, on Thursday night and Friday morning, will be very warm. Rain will be possible near and below mid-mountain, though during times of more intense precipitation,…Continue

On Tuesday we saw clouds and light snow showers, mostly in the morning, amounting to 1-2 inches at the summit snow stake. Also, temperatures warmed during the day and didn’t drop much overnight.
Now on Wednesday morning, clouds are continuing to stream over Colorado as moisture pushes into the state in advance of the next storm. Expect a partly-to-mostly cloudy day with temperatures warming into the 30s.
Thursday should be similar to Wednesday with lots of…Continue
