SafetyWise and Forecast for Monday, February 29, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 27 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

A fast moving system will move across us later this morning and afternoon bringing some snow or snow showers, breezy winds and cooler temperatures. I think the biggest limitation is how fast this system is moving, so I'll temper the snowfall accumulations. Another similar system will move across us on Wednesday, then an even weaker system on Friday. We'll see a more…

SafetyWise and Forecast for Sunday, February 28, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 26 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The first system moved by to our north and while we didn't get any snow, the winds were quite strong. I believe today will be pretty nice and we could see a little cloudiness, but overall less wind and still a fair amount of sunshine. The next system will spread clouds and snow showers into the area tomorrow morning, then snowfall is expected to increase tomorrow afternoon…

SafetyWise and Forecast for Saturday, February 27, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 25 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The first system moving into the interior of the West is pretty weak, and the best lift and moisture stays north of the area. I'll keep some clouds and flurries in the forecast, but this system just doesn't look very good. The second system arrives on Monday, and the foreign (Euro/ Canadian) models like this system more than our (GFS) model. It certainly has more energy,…

SafetyWise Forecast for Friday, February 26, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 24 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

High pressure remains over us this morning, but the first of two systems to impact us is approaching the West Coast. I still believe this first system is the weaker of the two and will exit the area fairly rapidly. The second system arrives on Monday, and there's still a fairly large spread among the models with regards to it's strength and the exact path, but this…

SafetyWise Forecast for Thursday, February 25, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 23 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

The sateliite images show very little cloudines over the western states this morning, so grab the sunscreen and have fun on the mountain today and tomorrow. There are a couple of systems to talk about with the first moving rapidly across the area Saturday evening, then a stronger system later Monday into early Tuesday with a period with a moist, northwest flow and cold…

SafetyWise Forecast for Wednesday, February 24, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 22 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

A little inversion on the mountain this morning, but should be a fairly nice day and in fact, we should have several nice weather days with a little warming each day. The next system to move across the area will arrive later Saturday afternoon and evening with some light snow or snow showers, but should exit first thing Sunday. A second system will move into the area…

Airport numbers still slipping

Scott Condon - The Vail Daily

The Eagle County Regional Airport greets tens of thousands of guests every year. But it used to welcome more visitors than it does today.

Since 2011, there has been a 21 percent decline in passenger enplanements — the number of people boarding commercial aircraft. During that time, though, the town of Vail has set several records in both winter and summer sales tax collections, a good measure…

SafetyWise Forecast for Tuesday, February 23, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 21 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

As the winds shifted to the East- northeast last evening, the snow shut off and that continues to be the case this morning. The winds at 700 mb are stronger than forecasted, but decrease through the morning, and the surface gradient is 3 mb from the north, and it decreases through the day. So, an improving wind situation from now through the remainder of the day. We…

SafetyWise Forecast for Monday, February 22, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 20 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

A little light snow or snow showers around this morning, but any accumulations will be light. The better lift and deeper moisture can be expected this afternoon and evening, but then the winds shift to the north and northeast around midnight and through much of tomorrow. The air mass does get unstable enough this afternoon to support convective activity, so be on the…

SafetyWise Forecast for Sunday, February 21, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 19 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

The winds dropped off yesterday afternoon and evening, and that was awesome to see!!! The satellite images show another area of clouds coming across northern Utah and Nevada, but the wind fields are much weaker and the 700 mb winds are 15 knots or less through the afternoon. The next system to have an impact on us will bring a chance of snow showers by noon tomorrow,…

SafetyWise Forecast for Saturday, February 20, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 18 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls

A couple of systems will clip us over the weekend, so a little cloudiness at times, but we should remain dry. I still like this system moving southeastward on Monday with an increase in snowfall during the afternoon and evening, and may need to bump the amounts more, and it's got a nice pocket of colder air. Once it exits the area we should have high pressure over us…

SafetyWise Forecast for Friday, February 19, 2016

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 17 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joel Gratz

Thursday night’s storm came in on schedule and about as ferocious as we expected. The strong winds and intense snowfall between 5 pm to 9 pm on Thursday led to five inches of snow. You’ll find this amount of fresh powder to enjoy on Friday morning. Due to the wind, expect this snow to be thicker and ski in a surfy way, rather than light powder. No worries, though, as any…
