SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Saturday, February 28, 2015

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 41 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: The low pressure continues to move southward along the California Coast, and there's a band of clouds and precipitation in an east-west fashion across southern Utah over into southern Colorado. This band will pivot northward through the day and tonight bringing an increase in snow or snow showers, and then it'll begin to weaken, but still some snow showers through the day…

We have gone 40 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Today is the 58th day of the year; there are 298 days left in the year.

Joe Nicholls: A little snow overnight and earlier this morning, but more of a break now with some clouds and fog in the area. Not much in the way of lift during the day, but could see some snow showers develop this afternoon and early evening. The main area of low pressure will move southward and develop…

By any name, terrain west of Aspen Mountain can be dangerous for slides

Scott Condon - The Aspen Times

There is some debate about the proper name of the out-of-bounds area on the upper western edge of Aspen Mountain, but it’s indisputable the terrain has been deadly over the years.

Skiers have headed out of bounds into the steep gulches just below the upper terminal of the Ruthie’s chairlift for decades. The area is inviting because it has an open entry…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Thursday, February 26, 2015

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 39 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: One system has exited the area, and the next is moving into northern Utah. We'll be on the northern fringe of this system this afternoon and evening, but we should see a little more snow, especially across the upper part of the resort where the 700 mb winds will be from the northwest. After this system,  the next will move southward along the California Coast tomorrow…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 37 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: A chilly start on the mountain this morning, but should see plenty of sunshine. The next system will move southeastward across the area tomorrow with some snow expected, then we're on the edge of a couple of systems through the weekend bringing a chance of snow showers and temperatures cooler than normal. The system tomorrow has a decent northwest flow, so it's one of our…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Monday, February 23, 2015

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 36 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: Sorry this is late, but had some kind of flu bug or whatever yesterday afternoon and last night. Mentally doing better this morning, but physically the body is struggling a little. Thank you for your patience. The main band of moisture has shifted south and while we could see some cloudiness, I think most of the support for additional snowfall will be south of us. The next…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Sunday, February 22, 2015

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 35 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: I shouldn't have trimmed back the snowfall amounts on the update, as they would've been close. When I got up at 3 AM to start working on the forecasts, I did notice it was snowing a little more than I expected at that time, but the winds at 700 mb were still from the south, so maybe that played a role. The surface pressure gradient from Cheyenne to Craig is 12 mb right now,…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Saturday, February 21, 2015

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 34 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls:  The moist northwest flow will continue through the afternoon, but the easterly pressure gradient will be increasing during the afternoon and really kicks in tonight and tomorrow. So, I'll hit the snowfall fairly hard this morning into early afternoon, then as the easterly gradients increase, and the east winds aloft develop, the accumulations should end. The surface…

SafetyWise and Joe Nicholls' Forecast for Friday, February 20, 2015

Ladies & Gents,    W

We have gone 33 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Joe Nicholls: A fairly complicated forecast with so many things going on. First system is coming across northern Utah and southwest Wyoming early this morning and we'll see snow develop by mid to late morning and continue through much of the afternoon. It should be a nice burst of snow with a northwest wind this afternoon, then a break overnight, or at least a decrease to snow…

Ladies & Gents,

We have gone 32 days since our last day lost to a work related injury.

Today is the 50th day of 2015. There are 315 days left in the year.

Joe Nicholls: Another nice weather day at the resort, but there are some changes coming, and the first will arrive tomorrow with snow developing in the afternoon and could be a nice burst, then decreasing to snow showers in the evening. The upper level support will push southward on Saturday and we'll see…
