The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Thursday, January 18, 2018

Joel Gratz

Wednesday’s high temperature at mid-mountain was in the upper 20’s to low-30s, and Thursday and Friday should be even warmer with highs in the upper-30s (though morning temperatures at the base will still be chilly). Expect more clouds on Thursday and Friday, though these should be high-altitude, thin clouds that only filter the sunshine rather than block it entirely.

The weekend storm is still going to happen, but the latest forecasts show that it will take longer…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, January 17, 2018

Joel Gratz

Now on Wednesday morning, the base temperature is 2F, the mid-mountain temperature is 20F, and the summit temperature is 12F. This is the same temperature inversion we experienced on Tuesday morning, where you’ll find the coldest temperature at the base of the mountain. This happens often when we have nights with clear skies and light winds.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the weather will continue to be dry. High temperatures will be in the mid-30s on Wednesday…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, January 16, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Now on Tuesday morning, the base temperature is -5F, the mid-mountain temperature is 15F, and the summit temperature is 7F. This is called a temperature inversion, where you’ll find the coldest temperature at the base of the mountain, and this often happens when we have nights with clear skies and light winds. Don’t worry about the cold as mostly sunny skies will allow the temperature to rise into the 20s by midday Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, January 15, 2018

Joel Gratz-

On Monday, we might see a few snow showers and partly cloudy skies as a weak storm drifts in from the northeast. High temperatures should be in the 20s on the hill (even though the temperature at the base in the morning is colder, around 10 degrees), and I am hoping for more sun than clouds because, if the atmosphere is not going to bring significant snow, why not have a sunny day?!

Then on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the weather should be dry. We’ll see high…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, January 14, 2018

Joel Gratz-

The previous storm dropped 22 inches of snow on Steamboat, from Wednesday night through Saturday morning. I hope you were able to enjoy the fresh pow! The ski area is now 97% open, which I believe is the highest percentage of terrain in Colorado. Yippee!

After a mostly cloudy day on Saturday, when low clouds hung over Colorado’s northern mountains, now on Sunday, the early-morning clouds should eventually give way to mostly sunny weather on Sunday midday and…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, January 13, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Friday was a fantastic powder day at Steamboat with about 3 inches falling on Thursday night and 3-6 additional inches falling during the day on Friday.

Also, a bit of snow continued to fall after lifts closed on Friday, with perhaps an additional inch between Friday at 3 pm and 8 pm. So on Saturday, you’ll find leftover powder stashes and soft snow across the mountain – enjoy!

On Saturday, you’ll likely find mostly dry and partly sunny weather with perhaps a…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Friday, January 12, 2018

Joel Gratz

Good Friday morning – get out on the hill because the powder will be excellent!

After a mostly dry day on Thursday, Steamboat received 3-4 inches on Thursday night between midnight and 5 am. It’s snowing hard as I type this at 7 am on Friday, and there should be an additional 4-8 inches of snow during the morning and midday on Friday. All of this new snow on top of the soft base (thanks to the snow on Wednesday) means that you’ll find fantastic powder on Friday –…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Thursday, January 11, 2018

Joel Gratz

We received 9 inches of snow on Wednesday midday and afternoon, then another 1 inch on Wednesday night. This means that you should find soft conditions and perhaps fresh tracks in some areas on Thursday morning – enjoy the new snow!

There might be times of light snow or flurries on Thursday, though I think any additional accumulations will be minimal.

From Thursday night through Friday afternoon, another storm will hit northern Colorado with an additional 6-12…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, January 10, 2018

Joel Gratz

Tuesday night was dry, and now on Wednesday morning, snow just began to fall steadily at around 7 am.

From Wednesday morning through Wednesday last chair, expect moderate to intense snowfall with 3-6+ inches of accumulation. There should be more powder on the slopes throughout the day. Temperatures will start warm, with thicker, denser snow, then should cool with fluffier snow by afternoon.

On Wednesday night, a favorable wind from the northwest should keep…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, January 9, 2018

Joel Gratz

Late on Monday night, we saw light snow for a time as the next storm starts to push moisture toward Steamboat. This light snow left a coating on the upper mountain, but accumulations were under one inch.

On Tuesday and Tuesday night, we might see a few additional snow showers, though I think most of this time will be dry and any snow accumulation should be minimal. Also, temperatures will be warm with a high near freezing at mid-mountain, so there could be a few rain…
