Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Wednesday, October 18, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The satellite images show a fairly impressive low pressure covering much of the Gulf of Alaska with the base of the low pressure off the Pacific Northwest Coast. This system will push a front across our area Friday night with a sharply colder air mass behind the front and could see a little snow. It exits the area rapidly and by early next week, we're back into high pressure and milder temperatures with a strengthening inversion.

It's just a brief shot, as the high pressure rebounds back over the area into next week.

A fairly mild southwest flow over the area today with the wind speeds expected to be on the increase this afternoon and tonight. Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Thursday, October 12, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The system that moved into the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday is moving across the northern and central Rockies and weakening. There's some cloudiness over Utah, but dry and the cooler air mass will be moving eastward into the area today and tonight. A secondary piece of the low pressure is moving into the Pacific Northwest today and will bring a chance of flurries or snow showers Saturday and a little more of a shot of cooler temperatures.

Colorado ski industry adds teeth to climate change talk

Kevin Fixler- The Summit Daily

Last week in Keystone, a modern-day prophet on climate change addressed a room of several hundred High Country residents as they chomped away at their breakfasts, daring each of them to accept a simple challenge.

"I'm asking you to save civilization," he said unabashedly. "You're being asked to do a major thing and your response should be, 'Oooh, I don't know if I'm your person, I can…

Joe Nicholls and NOAA forecast for Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Joe Nicholls

The satellite images are showing some clouds over centraal Nevada and this system will move northeastward toward Montana, and while this system stays well north of the area, it will draw a little moisture northward from New Mexico. So, I'll keep a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. A quiet weekend, at least until Sunday night, when a cold front pushes southward into the area bringing a much cooler air…
