The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, February 25, 2018

Joel Gratz-

The official Sunday morning snow report shows 5 inches of accumulation at mid-mountain, though the summit snow stake camera shows that about 2 inches of snow fell on Saturday night, so accumulations might be quite variable across the mountain. Nonetheless, this additional snow and very cold temperatures will keep the snow surface soft.

Speaking of temperatures, they stayed in the single digits on Saturday, didn’t move very much on Saturday night, and won’t rise to more…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, February 24, 2018

Joel Gratz-

On Friday night, 7 inches accumulated at the summit snow stake camera, and the official report from mid-mountain is also 7 inches. This was a few inches above the high side of the forecast, and we'll take it!

Now on Saturday morning, you will find soft snow and a very cold temperature between about -5 at the summit and +10F at the base, and the temperature will not increase very much even as the snow showers end and you see some sunshine today. Dress warmly, and expect…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Friday, February 23, 2018

Joel Gratz

We are in the middle of a fun storm cycle with chances for snow during four days in a row from Thursday through Sunday.

On Thursday, Steamboat received 1 inch of snow during the morning, and then additional snow fell on Thursday night with 2 more inches being reported at mid-mountain and 3 more inches on the Summit snow stake camera.

Now on Friday morning, we are in between storms and there is plenty of sunshine. The snow surface should be soft and powdery…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Thursday, February 22, 2018

Joel Gratz

We will see three-storms through Sunday.

The first storm arrived late on Wednesday night with 1/2 inch being reported on the mid-mountain snow stake as of 500 am on Thursday. We should see the snow showers continue on Thursday with 1-3 inches of accumulation and this should keep the groomers and north-facing slopes soft and fun.

The snow showers will likely wind down on Thursday night and Friday, though they may not stop completely and some weather forecast…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Joel Gratz

On Tuesday we saw temperatures stay near or just below zero all day with a mix of a few clouds and breaks of sunshine. The 5 inches of new snow that fell on Monday night was just below my forecast range, but still, we'll take the powder and look forward to more!

Now on Wednesday morning, the temperature is between -5F to +5F from base to summit, and the sunshine should warm us into the 10-15F range by midday. Thanks to the cold temperatures, you will likely find soft…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Joel Gratz

We saw snow showers on Monday, which resulted in about 1 inch of accumulation, then the more intense snow hit on Monday afternoon with about 4 inches falling during the late afternoon and early evening. The official Tuesday morning snow report shows 5 inches at the mid-mountain snow stake.

Tuesday morning’s snow will likely be on the denser side due to the wind and cold temperatures. Speaking of temperatures, they will start the day at 0-5F above zero and will likely…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, February 19, 2018

Joel Gratz

Sunday was sunny, with a high temperature of about 50F at the base, 30F at the summit, and wind gusts in the 30-40mph range at the summit. These windy conditions formed as the next storm was moving toward Steamboat.

On Sunday night, we saw clouds move in, and now early on Monday morning, the sky is mostly cloudy and we’re seeing a few light snow showers with temperatures in the 20-25F range. One of these showers dropped one inch of snow just before dawn, and the…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, February 18, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Sunday will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s, which is perfect weather for skiing.

Then on Sunday night, a storm will approach, winds will become stronger, and we will see more clouds and the chance for a few snow showers with 1-3 inches of snow.

Monday will be a stormy day but I have low confidence in snow amounts. The atmosphere will produce narrow lines and small cells of intense snowfall, but these will be hit-or-miss. If a few of…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, February 17, 2018

Joel Gratz-

We saw a few snow showers on Friday night that left perhaps a dusting of new snow, and now, Saturday and Sunday should be dry, mostly sunny, and warmer with high temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s.

The next storm will likely bring clouds, windy weather, and potentially steady snow by Monday afternoon with 3-6 inches of snow likely accumulating during the day.

Then on Monday night, I expect intense snow with an additional 4-8 inches of accumulation. This…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Friday, February 16, 2018

Joel Gratz

As of Friday morning, the storm is over at Steamboat and you’ll find mostly sunny skies and a temperature of about 5-10F to start the day. The recent storm dropped 12 inches of snow early on Thursday morning, with an additional 2 inches on Thursday evening after lifts closed (these numbers are via the summit snow stake camera). That makes a storm total of 14 inches. All of this should translate to soft turns on Friday morning – dress warmly and enjoy!

On Friday…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Thursday, February 15, 2018

Joel Gratz

While I thought we would receive more snow on Wednesday night, the most intense snow stayed about 30 miles north of the resort, dropping 8+ inches closer to the Wyoming border. At Steamboat, we picked up about 2 inches Wednesday night through Thursday at 530 am.

The good news is that the intense snow that was just to our north on Wednesday night has shifted south and as of 6 am on Thursday, snow is falling on Steamboat at the rate of 1+ inches per hour. Expect this…
