The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Wednesday, December 13, 2017

Joel Gratz

Thanks to the hard work of the snowmaking team, Four Points lift will open Wednesday with the following trails: middle Giggle Gulch, Park Lane, Short Cut, upper Rainbow, Skyline, upper Burgess Creek Lift Line, upper Hurricane and White Out.

And thanks to the atmosphere, we have natural snow in the forecast with two storms in the next 3-4 days.

The first storm will move from north-to-south over Colorado on Wednesday night and Thursday, and this should bring…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Joel Gratz

There will be 17 trails open on Tuesday, and this is mostly thanks to the hard working snowmaking crew that has taken advantage of recent cold temperatures. Our natural snowfall is about 65% of average, and we will not improve that number on Tuesday or Wednesday as we'll continue to see beautiful blue skies and comfortable temperatures with morning readings at the base in the teens and rising into the 30s during the afternoon. Temperatures at mid-mountain will be steadier…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, December 11, 2017

Joel Gratz

Temperatures each night this weekend dropped into the teens and 20s, which is low enough for snowmaking. In the absence of much natural snow, at least temperatures are chilly and the sun angle is low, which allows the snow on the ground to stick around.

The weather this week will be dry and mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 30s and lows in the teens and 20s. This should make for comfortable ski conditions during the day and allow crews to continue to make…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Sunday, December 10, 2017

Joel Gratz-

Snowmaking and mountain operations crews are working hard to open more terrain despite the dry weather. The total number of trails open is 17, and here is a 1-minute video that Steamboat just published showing the behind-the-scenes work of the snowmaking team: https://www.facebook.com/SteamboatResort/videos/10155163829408963/

The weather on Sunday and this week will be dry and mostly…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Saturday, December 9, 2017

Joel Gratz-

The good news is that temperatures will be chilly at night and snowmaking will continue. Also, we received about 12 inches of snow this past week, so that helped to deepen our base just a bit.

The not-so-ideal news is that we'll see dry weather this weekend and for all of next week with high temperatures in the 30s. We should see a slight cooling between December 14-16.

The next chance for snow will arrive on or around December 17th, and then the rest of…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, December 8, 2017

Joel Gratz

The official snow report, which measures new snow at mid-mountain, notes that 1 inch fell on Thursday and another inch fell on Thursday night for a total 24-hour report of 2 inches. That brings us up to 12 inches of snow for the week. Yes, we could use a lot more snow, but every flake counts and it's great to see the mountain covered in white.

There will be lingering clouds on Friday morning, then we should see plenty of sunshine with afternoon temperatures rising…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Thursday, December 7, 2017

Joel Gratz

Weak storm systems are sliding over Colorado's northern mountains and this is leading to clouds, cold air, and very light snowfall at Steamboat. On Wednesday, the summit snow stake camera showed a coating to an inch of snow, and I think we'll see a similar situation with a coating to 2 inches of snow from Thursday morning to Thursday late evening. Temperatures are chilly with readings around 10F at the base and in the single digits on the hill, so bundle up!

Looking…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Wednesday, December 6, 2017

Joel Gratz- Meteorologist at OpenSnow.com

Happy Wednesday and dress warmly this morning as the temperature is in the single digits from the base up to the summit. Isn't it great that it feels like winter again with cold temps and natural snow on the ground?

The weather for Wednesday will be partly sunny and likely dry, though a few clouds and flurries could sneak in from a system to our east. Then on Thursday, another slightly stronger system will slide into northern Colorado…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Tuesday, December 5, 2017

Joel Gratz

Monday was a great day at Steamboat with about 4-5 inches waiting for you in the morning and another 4-5 inches that fell during the morning and midday.

The snow that fell on Monday came in the form of big fluffy flakes, the exact type that creates the Champagne Powder that Steamboat is famous for. The weather conditions that most often produce these flakes at Steamboat is a summit temperature of 5-10F and a wind direction from the west, and those were the exact…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, December 4, 2017

Joel Gratz

On Monday morning, the snow report from mid-mountain indicates that 4-5 inches of snow fell on Sunday night, and this is confirmed by the snow stake webcam at the summit. And now as the sun rises around 7 am, light-to-moderate snow continues to fall, so you will enjoy fresh and soft turns in the morning. Please dress warmly as temperatures at mid-mountain are a chilly 10 degrees. And expect another 1-3 inches throughout the day on Monday as snow showers…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Sunday, December 3, 2017

Joel Gratz:

Sunday will start out dry and partly sunny, then we'll see a few snow showers on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday night, expect a better chance for snow after about 7 pm, with a few hours of intense snow as a cold front pushes through right around Sunday at midnight.

Then snow showers should continue on-and-off through the day on Monday. These snow showers on Monday could add a few more inches to the storm total because the wind will blow from the west and this is a…
