The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, March 25, 2018

Sam Collentine-Steamboat will receive mild temps and gusty winds out of the southwest on Sunday, followed by increased cloud coverage during the second half of the day. Look for mid-mountain highs in the 30s ahead of slightly cooler temps for the rest of this week.Come Sunday evening, increasing clouds will turn over to light snow showers through Monday. Totals will range from a dusting to maybe an inch or two as a slow-moving system slides to our southwest and eventually well to our south…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, March 24, 2018

Sam Collentine-Steamboat is reporting 11 inches on the summit for Saturday morning's report. This is slightly higher than expected but I believe the wind shifted just enough to the west to deliver us an extra few inches. The turns will be soft and surfy so get out there and enjoy!Mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures will now be the story on Saturday and into Sunday. There's still just enough moisture to produce a few clouds and high-elevation showers but this shouldn't put a damper on the…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, March 11, 2018

Joel Gratz-Well, the storm on Friday night and Saturday was a disappointment, only bringing a dusting to an inch to Steamboat, and not the 2-4 inches that I was expecting. Every storm is an opportunity to figure out why the atmosphere brings more snow to certain mountains and not others. In this case, the higher-elevation mountains just to the east of Steamboat received 3-7 inches of snow, and I think the reason that Steamboat did not get more snow was the lack of cooling during this storm.…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, March 3, 2018

Joel Gratz- Friday was a sunny and warm day with afternoon high temperature reaching of 35F at the summit and 45F at the base.Saturday will be similar to Friday with sunny skies and afternoon highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.On Sunday morning, you’ll wake up to dry weather and perhaps some sunshine and breezy conditions. Then expect a cold front and snow to start between about 1100 am and noon with snow continuing through Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening, and Sunday night.I think we’ll see 3-5…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, February 25, 2018

Joel Gratz-The official Sunday morning snow report shows 5 inches of accumulation at mid-mountain, though the summit snow stake camera shows that about 2 inches of snow fell on Saturday night, so accumulations might be quite variable across the mountain. Nonetheless, this additional snow and very cold temperatures will keep the snow surface soft.Speaking of temperatures, they stayed in the single digits on Saturday, didn’t move very much on Saturday night, and won’t rise to more than about 10F…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, February 24, 2018

Joel Gratz-On Friday night, 7 inches accumulated at the summit snow stake camera, and the official report from mid-mountain is also 7 inches. This was a few inches above the high side of the forecast, and we'll take it!Now on Saturday morning, you will find soft snow and a very cold temperature between about -5 at the summit and +10F at the base, and the temperature will not increase very much even as the snow showers end and you see some sunshine today. Dress warmly, and expect the new powder…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, February 18, 2018

Joel Gratz- Sunday will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s, which is perfect weather for skiing. Then on Sunday night, a storm will approach, winds will become stronger, and we will see more clouds and the chance for a few snow showers with 1-3 inches of snow.Monday will be a stormy day but I have low confidence in snow amounts. The atmosphere will produce narrow lines and small cells of intense snowfall, but these will be hit-or-miss. If a few of these hit Steamboat, we…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, February 17, 2018

Joel Gratz-We saw a few snow showers on Friday night that left perhaps a dusting of new snow, and now, Saturday and Sunday should be dry, mostly sunny, and warmer with high temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s.The next storm will likely bring clouds, windy weather, and potentially steady snow by Monday afternoon with 3-6 inches of snow likely accumulating during the day. Then on Monday night, I expect intense snow with an additional 4-8 inches of accumulation. This timing means that Tuesday…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, February 11, 2018

Joel Gratz-Saturday's storm dropped 3 inches at mid-mountain and 4 inches at the summit, between about 5 am and midday. These amounts were lower than I expected, but we can't win 'em all. Thankfully we have additional storms in the forecast! Now on Sunday morning, the temperature is a chilly -5F at mid-mountain at 9 am, but the full sunshine and blue skies will help to warm things up to the upper teens to low 20s by early afternoon. Enjoy a perfect blue-bird day with lots of powder stashes left…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, February 10, 2018

Joel Gratz-Saturday will be a powder day!Snow starting at about 5 am and it will last for most of the day, tapering off between 1-3pm. My forecast is for a storm total of 4-8 inches, so even though the Saturday 5 am snow report showed zero inches, you’ll find deeper powder throughout the day, and your deepest run might be your last run in the afternoon.Sunday will be a sunny and cold day with a morning temperature near zero, rising into the teens to low 20s by the middle of the day. Enjoy the…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, January 28, 2018

Joel Gratz-Today on Sunday, weak energy and moisture will move over the northern mountains of Colorado (where Steamboat is located), and this will likely mean mostly cloudy skies with flurries. I was expecting more snow from this storm (perhaps a coating to a few inches), but we usually need cooling temperatures to get snow at Steamboat, and this storm is not bringing cooler temperatures, so now it appears that we’ll stay mostly dry. The high temperature on Sunday should be in the upper…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, April 15, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Surprise!

If you get out on the hill early on Sunday morning, you’ll find a dusting of new snow that fell on Saturday night.

Earlier forecasts showed the chance for a few snow showers on Saturday night, and the storm actually came in a bit stronger than expected.

Sunday morning’s snow showers and clouds should move away by mid-morning, leaving partly sunny skies for the rest of Sunday with temperatures rising into the mid-to-upper 30s. Have fun…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, April 14, 2018

Joel Gratz-

Friday was a chilly day with 2-3 inches falling during the morning, which created fun powder conditions (total snowfall of about 10 inches when factoring in Thursday night) on the upper half of the mountain!

Then on Friday night, two inches of snow fell at the summit snow stake, and now on Saturday morning, light snow is just tapering off. If you’re heading out on Saturday, you’ll find a morning temperature of 10-20F with soft-ish snow from the previous 36 hours of…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Sunday, April 8, 2018

Joel Gratz-

As of Sunday at 4:00am, the summit snow stake shows that about 8 inches of snow accumulated on Saturday night, and on the upper half of the mountain, we might see an additional 1-3 inches before the snow stops early this morning. While temperatures are finally starting to cool, the freezing level was between the summit and mid-mountain, so like Saturday, expect thick, dense powder on the upper part of the mountain with little to no new snow on the lower half of the mountain.…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Saturday, April 7, 2018

Joel Gratz-

We saw snow on Friday, and this snow continued on Friday night with deeper accumulations than I expected. This is what happens when we have a lot of moisture in the air – it can lead to big snow totals! The summit snow stake showed 6 inches on Friday with 6 inches on Friday night, totaling 12 inches.

The temperature is warm, around 25-30F from mid-mountain to the summit, and just above freezing at the base. So, expect dense, surfy snow from mid-mountain and above, and…
