Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Monday, August 21, 2017

Joe NichollsThe main event today isn't a weather event. The eclipse happens later this morning, and lasts for about 2 minutes and 40 seconds. There's a chance of a couple of showers and thunderstorms in the area this afternoon and early evening. We'll see an increase in the activity tomorrow and Wednesday, possibly Thursday. A little drier and more stable air mass is expected at the end of the week.Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from Noon to 8 pm today.Today - Mostly sunny,…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Friday, August 18, 2017

Joe NichollsWe're looking like we're in a fairly quiet weather pattern today and tomorrow with the models showing some showers down by I-70. We'll gradually see the moisture spread northward, but I don't see much more than scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms through early in the week.No chance of thunderstorms today.NOAA - Steamboat SpringsTodaySunny, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.TonightMostly clear, with a low around 46. West…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Joe NichollsAfter a couple of active weather days, should be much quieter over the next couple of days. The satellite images show a system over Nevada that isn't handled well by the models, so I'm keeping a very slight chance in the forecast, but anything today or tomorrow is pretty isolated and likely not to stay around for very long. Joe predicts a low chance of thunderstorms from 4 to 8 pm today.NOAA - Steamboat SpringsToday - Scattered sprinkles before 4 pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Friday, August 11, 2017

Joe NichollsI've had to adjust some timing and a little of the thought process with this forecast. The air mass is still fairly moist and unstable enough for a couple of showers and thunderstorms. There's a little activity this morning, then this should decrease a little later this morning and during the early afternoon, then come back later in the afternoon and evening. The bigger adjustment is for tomorrow afternoon and evening, and on Sunday, as the overnight models show better lift to the…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Tuesday, August 8, 2017

Joe NichollsA weak upper level low pressure is over the Great Basin this morning and will be moving slowly eastward today and tomorrow. The air mass over us is moist, and becomes fairly unstable later this morning thru early evening, and again looking really unstable tomorrow afternoon with the lifted index coming in at -4! We'll begin the drying out process to the air mass Thursday through the weekend, but still a chance of a couple of thunderstorms each afternoon.Joe is of the opinion that we…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for, Monday, August 7, 2017

Joe NichollsThe moisture is pooling over the region, so a lot of clouds over the next couple of days with an increase in showers and thunderstorms. I expect some areas of heavier rainfall, especially near the thunderstorms. A gradual decrease in the activity at the end of the week and next weekend, but still a chance each afternoon or early evening. Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from Noon to 4 pm, a moderate chance from 4 pm to 8 pm, and a low chance from then to…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Monday, July 31, 2017

Joe NichollsThe high pressure is strengthening over the West with our flow more from the north and northeast, so we're drying out the air mass. We could see an isolated thunderstorm, but these would have high bases with mainly gusty winds and lightning, and these would be very brief. A slight increase in the thunderstorm coverage on Wednesday and Thursday, b ut certainly not a big surge of moisture. NOAA - Steamboat SpringsToday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Light north northeast wind…See More

Joe Nicholls and NOAA Forecast for Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Joe Nicholls

Considerable cloudiness over the region with some light showers, and we'll see more throughout the day. The one limiting factor with regards to thunderstorms is the lack of heating. I believe we'll see some, but these will be a little more scattered than normal. A decreasing trend to the thunderstorms Friday through the weekend with our temperatures warming back up.

Joe is calling for a low chance of thunderstorms from Noon to 8 pm today.
