The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Joel GratzWe saw snow showers on Monday, which resulted in about 1 inch of accumulation, then the more intense snow hit on Monday afternoon with about 4 inches falling during the late afternoon and early evening. The official Tuesday morning snow report shows 5 inches at the mid-mountain snow stake.Tuesday morning’s snow will likely be on the denser side due to the wind and cold temperatures. Speaking of temperatures, they will start the day at 0-5F above zero and will likely not get much…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, February 19, 2018

Joel GratzSunday was sunny, with a high temperature of about 50F at the base, 30F at the summit, and wind gusts in the 30-40mph range at the summit. These windy conditions formed as the next storm was moving toward Steamboat. On Sunday night, we saw clouds move in, and now early on Monday morning, the sky is mostly cloudy and we’re seeing a few light snow showers with temperatures in the 20-25F range. One of these showers dropped one inch of snow just before dawn, and the official mid-mountain…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Friday, February 16, 2018

Joel GratzAs of Friday morning, the storm is over at Steamboat and you’ll find mostly sunny skies and a temperature of about 5-10F to start the day. The recent storm dropped 12 inches of snow early on Thursday morning, with an additional 2 inches on Thursday evening after lifts closed (these numbers are via the summit snow stake camera). That makes a storm total of 14 inches. All of this should translate to soft turns on Friday morning – dress warmly and enjoy! On Friday night, we might see a…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, February 6, 2018

Joel GratzDuring the day on Monday, we saw bursts of snow followed by periods of sun, and the snow amounted to perhaps one half to one inch during the day. Then we saw steadier snow around sunset and early evening which brought another inch to the mountain. The official snow report on Tuesday morning notes two inches, which sounds about right.During the day on Tuesday, expect times of sunshine alternating with a few bursts of snow as showers develop during the middle of the day and afternoon.…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, February 5, 2018

Joel GratzSnow started around midnight on Sunday night and the Monday 5 am snow report shows 2.5 inches at mid-mountain and 3 inches at the summit. This brings the storm total since Wednesday night to 9.5 inches.During the day on Monday, we could see light snow from on-and-off snow showers, though I think any steadier snow should stay to the south.A stronger and colder wave of energy should then hit Colorado on Monday night into Tuesday morning, but I am worried that the steadier snow will stay…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Joel GratzOn Tuesday, we saw partly sunny skies with a mid-mountain high temperature in the mid-20s.Now on Wednesday morning, our temperature is warmer, still in the mid-20s, thanks to cloud cover and more wind than the previous nights. We’ll likely see mostly cloudy skies today on Wednesday, which will keep the temperature in the 20s to low 30s with flatter light conditions. Then the weather will get interesting starting on Wednesday night and continue for about one week. The storm track will…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Joel GratzTuesday and Wednesday’s weather should be similar to Monday – partly cloudy skies and high temperatures rising into the low-to-mid 30s on the hill. Then the weather will get interesting starting on Wednesday night and continuing for about one week. The storm track will position itself near or over northern Colorado (where Steamboat is located) and this will bring chances for snow nearly every day and night for about one week. The best chance for more intense snow will be when pieces of…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Monday, January 29, 2018

Joel GratzOn Sunday, we had a mostly cloudy day thanks to weak energy and moisture that moved over Colorado’s northern mountains. For the next three days, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, expect dry weather, partly-to-mostly sunny skies, and warmer temperatures with afternoon highs in the low 30s.The next storm should bring snow on Wednesday night and Thursday (January 31 - February 1). Steamboat will likely be right on the edge between lighter snow accumulations (a dusting to a few inches) and…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Friday, January 26, 2018

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Friday, January 26, 2018Joel GratzIt’s a magical morning in Steamboat on Friday! The official snow report at 5:00 am says 5 inches at mid-mountain and the summit, but the summit snow-stake camera shows 9-10 inches as of 630 am, and the SNOTEL backcountry weather station on Buffalo Pass to the north of Steamboat shows about 10 inches with 0.3 inches of water content. That would be a snow-to-liquid ratio of 30-to-1, or unscientifically named, “Blower Pow”, or…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast for Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Joel Gratz

On Tuesday we saw temperatures stay near or just below zero all day with a mix of a few clouds and breaks of sunshine. The 5 inches of new snow that fell on Monday night was just below my forecast range, but still, we'll take the powder and look forward to more!

Now on Wednesday morning, the temperature is between -5F to +5F from base to summit, and the sunshine should warm us into the 10-15F range by midday. Thanks to the cold temperatures, you will likely find soft…
