The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Tuesday, December 5, 2017

Joel GratzMonday was a great day at Steamboat with about 4-5 inches waiting for you in the morning and another 4-5 inches that fell during the morning and midday. The snow that fell on Monday came in the form of big fluffy flakes, the exact type that creates the Champagne Powder that Steamboat is famous for. The weather conditions that most often produce these flakes at Steamboat is a summit temperature of 5-10F and a wind direction from the west, and those were the exact conditions that we saw…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, December 4, 2017

Joel GratzOn Monday morning, the snow report from mid-mountain indicates that 4-5 inches of snow fell on Sunday night, and this is confirmed by the snow stake webcam at the summit. And now as the sun rises around 7 am, light-to-moderate snow continues to fall, so you will enjoy fresh and soft turns in the morning. Please dress warmly as temperatures at mid-mountain are a chilly 10 degrees. And expect another 1-3 inches throughout the day on Monday as snow showers continue.Looking ahead, the…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, December 1, 2017

Joel GratzGood Friday morning!Friday's weather should be mostly dry, though I can't rule out a few snow showers as a weak storm moves just to the north of Colorado. On Saturday, expect dry, sunny, and slightly warmer weather (compared to Friday) with highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.On Sunday, we will see a few midday and afternoon snow showers, and then a cold front will bring a period of intense snow on Sunday night through Monday morning. If you want to ski powder, Monday is your day as…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, November 27, 2017

Joel GratzI'd love to tell you that we'll see a lot of natural snow this week, but that's just not in the cards. We might sneak out an inch or two on Monday night, and could see flurries to a coating of snow on Wednesday night. Aside from these two storms, however, the rest of the week will be dry. The upside of these systems is that temperatures will drop a few degrees, which should allow for more nighttime snowmaking.Looking further ahead, I have medium confidence that a strong storm will…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, November 24, 2017

The Steamboat Daily Snow-Joel GratzThanksgiving was mostly sunny at Steamboat, and now on Friday morning, more clouds are covering the sky. These clouds are being produced by a weak storm that will brush by northern Colorado on Friday afternoon. Expect the clouds to hang around through most of the day, and we may even see snow showers later on Friday, which could produce a coating of new snow. The main benefit of Friday afternoon's not-very-strong storm will be cooler temperatures, which means…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, November 17, 2017

The Steamboat Daily Snow - Joel GratzSnow started late on Monday night and it's still snowing lightly now on Tuesday morning. My best estimate for snow totals is about 2-3 inches on the mid and upper mountain, and perhaps another coating to 2 inches could accumulate early on Tuesday morning. Every snowflake helps and it's great to see this accumulation even as the current weather pattern is not conducive to a lot of snow. The mountain will open on Wednesday (see note above), and the weather for…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, November 17, 2017

The Steamboat Daily Snow - Joel GratzTemperatures continue to drop nicely below freezing at night, so snow making is continuing. Hopefully, there will be enough cold weather to allow for enough snow making so that Steamboat can start spinning the lifts on Wednesday. In terms of natural snow, we should see a weak storm on Monday night through Tuesday. This system has plenty of moisture but also is rather warm, with temperatures forecast to be the 20s and low 30s. The combination of lots of…See More

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Joel Gratz

There will be 17 trails open on Tuesday, and this is mostly thanks to the hard working snowmaking crew that has taken advantage of recent cold temperatures. Our natural snowfall is about 65% of average, and we will not improve that number on Tuesday or Wednesday as we'll continue to see beautiful blue skies and comfortable temperatures with morning readings at the base in the teens and rising into the 30s during the afternoon. Temperatures at mid-mountain will be steadier…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Monday, December 11, 2017

Joel Gratz

Temperatures each night this weekend dropped into the teens and 20s, which is low enough for snowmaking. In the absence of much natural snow, at least temperatures are chilly and the sun angle is low, which allows the snow on the ground to stick around.

The weather this week will be dry and mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 30s and lows in the teens and 20s. This should make for comfortable ski conditions during the day and allow crews to continue to make…

The Steamboat Daily Snow Forecast, Friday, December 8, 2017

Joel Gratz

The official snow report, which measures new snow at mid-mountain, notes that 1 inch fell on Thursday and another inch fell on Thursday night for a total 24-hour report of 2 inches. That brings us up to 12 inches of snow for the week. Yes, we could use a lot more snow, but every flake counts and it's great to see the mountain covered in white.

There will be lingering clouds on Friday morning, then we should see plenty of sunshine with afternoon temperatures rising…
